When I visited French Polynesia in 2019, I was completely captivated by its beauty and charm. From the moment I arrived, the turquoise lagoons and lush palms felt like stepping into a dream. I stayed at the beautiful St. Regis in Bora Bora, where I experienced one of my all-time favorite travel moments—waking up in an over-the-water bungalow with the ocean shimmering beneath me.

Beyond the breathtaking scenery, what truly stood out were the warm and welcoming people and the incredible local cuisine. I still think about my first taste of poisson cru—freshly caught fish marinated in coconut milk and lime juice—a perfect reflection of the islands themselves: simple, vibrant, and full of flavor.

I also had the chance to stay at the Hotel Kia Ora in Rangiroa. The underwater world was just as unforgettable. The diving and snorkeling in Rangiroa were some of the best I’ve ever experienced—crystal-clear visibility, colorful coral gardens, and an abundance of marine life including manta rays, dolphins, and sharks. And as an added bonus, the water was so warm that I didn’t even need a wetsuit!

While most travelers think of French Polynesia as a summer destination, our winter months are actually their lower tourist season, which makes it an ideal time to visit. The weather remains wonderfully warm, the crowds thin out, and it’s the perfect escape from the chill back home.

If you’re dreaming of turquoise waters, gentle breezes, and endless island hospitality, French Polynesia in winter might just be your next unforgettable getaway.
